I've been to a boxing session once a week almost every week for a few months, and let me tell you, it is no easy task! Apart from the sessions being friendly and relatively cheap, it's my favourite form of cardio and strength training, plus great anger management, so why should you give boxing a punch?

1. The cardio

Like I said, the cardio is pretty much non-stop for an hour session, and as with any martial arts, the 'warm-up' is a full 15 minutes of intense and non-stop combination of running, burpies, push ups, sit ups, lunges and anything else the instructor throws at you! Usually, there will be some more fitness training during a session, with more jumping lunges and push ups that can get your heart racing!

2. Stress and anger management

When boxing, I've found the angrier the better! Well, control and technique is important, but having an outlet for stress and frustration that can also make a productive work out session is invaluable. With every punch you can unwind a little more, and especially during my exams, boxing has been a welcome activity!

3. The weight loss & toning

Although I didn't start boxing to lose weight, with the cardio and strength training combination, you can lose over 500 calories with an hour. Like I mentioned, there's a combination of actual boxing and fitness with most classes, and so you'll do plenty of push ups and lunges, with some punching bag and technique work thrown in. Obviously boxing is great for toning and strengthening your arms, and it's also amazing for your obliques, as you twist your hips with every punch! 

With the combinations of exercises, and the short, intense bursts of movement, boxing perfect for interval training. This is a proven method of efficient weight loss, and you are constantly changing things up so you last longer!

Furthermore, you basically get a full body work out when boxing, although you work your arms a little more.

Boxing helps tone, strengthen, build endurance and lose weight, all whilst you're having a good time. What could be better?
